2010

Sat Jan 2, 2010, 8:48 AM
Good Lord, every time I see/read that, I get chills. How did the last decade manage to slip past so quickly? Guh.

In any case, how was your guys' New Year's? I hung out with friends, played videogames, and ate anything unhealthy I could get my hands on. Which...really isn't that different from what I usually do on the weekends, heh. Still fun, though.

Right now I'm playing around with some new software I got as a late-ish Christmas present: Dreamweaver, Flash, and a healthy handful of other Adobe programs, all at a very handsome $350. Man, I love me some student discounts.

I know I've said time and time again that I hate Flash, but as a good chunk of the professionals in a wide range of fields use it, I figured I might as well buckle down and tackle the cursed thing. On that note, if anyone knows of a good template for interactive Flash comics (and maybe some accompanying tutorials), could ya point me to it? I'm having a little trouble locating one.

Hope your Christmases and New Years were good ones. Here's to the new decade.

Groups + Project

Mon Dec 14, 2009, 8:37 AM
Hey, guys. Me again. How's everyone's December so far? Good, yes? I'm a little under the weather at the moment, but nothing too serious.

So. Um. I've joined up with a couple of Groups lately -specifically #DragonArtists and #Dev-tattoos, both founded about a week ago. I'm a Contributor over at the latter, which apparently makes me something of a low-ranking admin? I dunno, this whole thing is still a little new for me. But I'm glad to be helping, and I hope that whatever I'm doing helps #Dev-tattoos stays afloat.

In other news, I'm getting ready to start a project of sorts. Some of my older watchers might remember when I started that "100 Themes Challenge" that's been floating around for a few years now; I only got about a quarter of the way through, and the only remnant of that endeavor is "Night," an old and rather awkward Sharpie piece of mine. I've always been a little embarrassed that I could never finish it -especially when the prompts were quite simple.

So I've started building my own challenge, centered around music. The prompts have been replaced by songs -about 34 at the moment- and each song will eventually have an image tied to it. I'm kinda excited for this, actually; it'll be good practice. I'll probably put up a journal for it once I've got the particulars settled. Here are the prompts so far, in handy-dandy playlist form: [link]

Which reminds me: if anyone knows a song that they'd like to see me illustrate, drop me a comment with a link, and I might add it in.

And on a last note, is there anyone I owe art for? I know I need to give Lupe the stuff she's asked for, but is there anyone else for who I promised art and never got back to? I'd really like to start the new year without owing anyone anything.

Allrighty. See you guys later; have a happy/merry Christmas/Hannukah/Whateveritisyoucelebrate, and an excellent New Year.

Features

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 10, 2009, 6:31 AM

Alrighty. Since no one stepped up for a feature, I'll just go ahead and hand 'em out. Whether you like it or not. :iconverynotimpressedplz:

So, without further ado...

FEATURES

New(ish) Watchers
~lentilstudios: Newcomer to dA, with great promise in regards to her illustrative and photography work.

*inthename: Excellent surreal artist who works primarily with black and white. Founder of the club *PsychedelicTreasures.

~Zieloe: Another newish member, Zieleo creates sleek, charming dragons and original creatures.

Watch'd
*bigbigtruck: Excellent, funny comic artist who is currently working on a graphic novel entitled The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal.

~Finaira: Cool tattoo flash artist who deals mainly in tribal designs.

=Golden-Silver: Great cartoon and comics artist with a great sense of humor and awesome, original character designs.

~kpavlis: Jaw-droppingly talented photographer. It astounds me that this guy isn't more well-known.

~MardukIvanKalium: Promising young comic artist with a quirky, upbeat vibe in all her art. Currently working on two comics projects, including a disco-themed parody of Dante Alighieri's Inferno.

=MyNameIsMad: Another awesome comic artist. Co-judge for the "Cooking Wars" original character tournament, co-creator of the wonderful fantasy-western graphic novel Compromise, and a never-ending fountain of unique characters.

~Paimonerra: Traditional artist whose work often delves into the macabre and wonderfully surreal. Part of the reason I still practice with watercolors.

~ptromea: Another surreal artist whose digital work looks like it was painted with watercolor or oil rather than a program.

*Ricefish: Traditional artist who works with ornate patterns, fantasy motifs, and dreamlike backgrounds and monsters. Eye-candy in the best sense of the phrase.

=Shinerai: Probably one of the most well-known fantasy artists here on dA -for good reason.

Shout-Outs
~rblokker: Awesome, immensely helpful photographer and photomanipulator. He's got a great photo stock collection over on his alternate account, ~BlokkStox

=1pen: Inspiring pen-and-ink (and Sharpie) artist whose work always contains a sense of wonder, as well as a great sense of humor. She's got a fractal account over on ~dynaformer, as well as an ongoing artists' challenge called "Project Disability"; send her a note if you're curious.

..And, last but not least, to *FliLikeAPenguin and ~MimiMoraine, for being the most awesome friends ever. Also, ~Mekatra, for being all kinds of cool.

If you're itching for a feature, give me a shout, and I'll squeeze ya in. For now, I've gotta go. There's art to do, ToonBoom tutorials to find, and leftover Thanksgiving turkey to nom on.

See ya when I see ya.
